Tips To Find The Right Auto Transporter For Your Classic Car

You've been searching for your dream classic car for years, and you finally found it – but it's across the country. How can you get it back home?

Sure, you can fly out to where the car is and drive it home; however, you'd prefer not to put all of those miles on it, and you certainly don't want to subject it to any potential damage on such a long journey. What other option do you have? Well, you could always have it shipped home by a professional auto transportation service, like Mercury Auto Transport.

Before you pick just any auto transport service, however, you want to make sure you select the best carrier possible for the job. After all, you wouldn't just give the keys to anyone and let them take your new baby for a ride, would you?

Here are some tips that can help you find an auto transport service that you can entrust that fabulous classic car to.

Rely on Word of Mouth

Do you know anyone who has had a classic car shipped? If so, ask for recommendations for auto transporters. Any auto transporter can come up with a great advertising campaign, but just because they advertise that they offer outstanding service doesn't necessarily mean that they do. If a company comes highly recommended by someone you know who has had experience with said company, chances are it's a transporter that you can trust, too.

Check Reviews

If you don't know anyone who can recommend an auto transport service, you'll be able to find plenty of companies that offer this service online. However, before you select a company, make sure that you do some research. Reviews are definitely a good indicator of quality of service and reputation. If there are a dozen reviews and nine of them are negative, obviously that's a red flag that the company isn't reputable and you should move onto the next one.

Confirm Liability

Find out the limit of liability for the carrier you are considering. The higher the liability limit, the more protection your vehicle will have. For example, if there is an accident during shipment and your car is damaged, the amount of the liability insurance the transporter has will determine how much the transporter's insurance provider will pay for the damages. If the transporter has a liability limit of $50,000 but $75,000 worth of damages were done, you would be responsible for paying $25,000 yourself.

Inquire About the Tow Vehicle

Will your classic car be shipped in an open trailer or will it be shipped in an enclosed container? Obviously, the latter is the safest option, as it will prevent your car from being exposed to the elements, road debris, dirt and grime.

Check Out Safety Records

Once you find a company that you are interested in using, check the company's safety records. The local department of transportation and/or the federal Department of Transportation will have a list of inspections that have been performed on the company and will also be able to provide you with a report of any major accidents or incidents.

Utilizing these tips, you will be able to find an auto transport service that can safely bring your beloved classic car to you.
